You may have noticed, the FPD & BSpot web sites have changed a lot. Why?
- First off, site activity isn't so hot. So, figured it was time for a change. (My motive isn't a sky high Google Page Rank. My motive is to give you the reader, valuable information.)
- Next, using Google Analytics, I have noticed many trends.
- Predominantly, several visitors just come to one page and leave. Ergo, a search engine or a specific page hyperlink is all. They are interested in.
- Further more, leading me to conclude. I'm just a part of Google. When you search for "XEmacs custom key bindings," this is how people find me. (Actually hit #14 with Google. When you try it?)
- More so, I'm switching to a new format. A rather loose one. ie. I don't care about "meticulous linking" of every web page upon web page [to the home page or page ahead of it, above it, under it, and all that!], for the casual visitor. (It disappoints me, how several people come to my site. Yet, seem to lack the motivation to browse my blog or jump to the home pages, either. Ok.)
- Later on, as time permits, I'll explain the alternatives for browsing my site.
- No one comments. However, the "sploggers" have made their "moron email noise" when they ping en masse to my MT system, such a nuisance. I just turned it off. (Option: I'll consider finding other ways, "or perhaps" other sites to gather comment information from? If this area starts picking up.)
- I am the webmaster. I can do whatever, I want.
What have I learned from this web site?
- The blog is worth it and provides far more for myself, also. The RSS feeds and how easy it is, to re-style it within Movable Type. Priceless.
- Google "has scraped" my blog posts, one by one.
- Why I say, I'm part of Google, not they are part of me. (As long as they abide by the CC Noncommercial-Share Alike Attribution license, fine with me.)
- Again, the blog does drive more traffic, and is a personal reference for myself, too.
- Need to spend more time, seeing what visitors are looking at, and "add more detailed" material (per their queries) for their benefit, from this data. New Goal
- I can do more, to connect to my local Community. (Bismarck Mandan North Dakota) However, the recent explosion of social sites, sites "showing every business" or shopping item / where available in Bis-Man, has made it a bit pointless to compete with them. (FPD has been up four years, now.) I am just one developer, working full-time, during the work week, only on weekends, can I check emails.
- Google Maps for instance, has pretty much "taken over" showing almost anyone anything you could question about your own town.
Till Next Time, Glen
