Numbering Schemes

Most people take it for granted, how do we count? Why do we use letters for somethings, then numerals for everything else.

Wikipedia is a great site. I cannot recall seeing articles on things like these: numbering schemes, numbering plans, CAS registry numbers, house numbering schemes, or a formal definition on line numbers in my Encyclopedia Britannica.

There are many different numbering schemes for assigning nominal numbers to entities. These generally require an agreed set of rules, or a central coordinator. The schemes can be considered to be examples of a primary key of a database management system table, whose table definitions require a database design.
